Thank you for taking time to read and respond to my article, Tamara! Similarly, I do believe having a mixed identity has helped me develop a heightened awareness of my privilege and racial category — and, in turn, a greater awareness of injustice.

I do see the media landscape shifting. There have been more and more mixed actors making their way into these show/films (which is encouraging!) I’m looking forward to more media exploring the mixed experience in more depth, too.

I really enjoyed your article, and it made me stop and consider how we travel not only to escape the day to day mundanities of our personal lives, but to escape our own identities, in a way. To be someone else, to play a different role, to relinquish our responsibilities. We’re all drawn to escapism. (To add to your points on the BLM movement: Even now, I think of the people around me who take “social media breaks” as a way of escaping their responsibility in the Black Lives Matter movement.) To really change our realities, we must face them head-on.
